SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden is becoming a Notified Body to carry out all the mandatory type testing which is needed in order to CE-mark fire resisting and/or smoke control door sets. The product standard for fire resisting and smoke control door sets – EN 16034:2014 (Pedestrian doorsets, industrial, commercial, garage doors and openable windows – Product standard, performance characteristics – Fire resisting and/or smoke control characteristics) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union in July. The implication of this standard being published will be that December 1st, 2015* CE marking comes into force and CE marking of these door sets will be possible. December 1st, 2018* is the end of the co-existence period of any national standard which means that from that point on CE marking is mandatory.
Many door manufactures have already started the process of fire/smoke testing their products, in order to be prepared for when the CE-marking comes into force. Doing so will ensure that CE-marking certificates may be efficiently and swiftly issued.
