Rim Seal Fire Protection System

SA has developed a special Rim Seal Fire Protection System with the aim of preventing rim seal fire outbreak from the very early stages of its development. The system known as SA/Fps Automatic Rim Seal Fire Suppression System is a fire fighting package which integrates a fire detection provision which automatically activates the fire extinguishing agent.

Rim Seal floating roof tank fires represent one of the most dangerous threats for chemical and petrochemical storage farms. During the years the world has experienced several rim seal fires and some of them have developed into large disasters.

Foam Based Rim Seal Fire Protection System

The SA/Fps Automatic Rim Seal Fire Suppression System is available in the following configuration:

a)      Foam Based unit ( FFFP or AFFF )

b)      Gas Based unit ( HFC 227 ea or CF3I )

a) Foam Based units can be configured with the following operational methods:

  1. Deluge using a pneumatic linear heat detection system
  2. Deluge using an electrical linear heat detection system
  3. Wet type using closed head nozzles

Activation of the unit is via a propellant gas (nitrogen) which can be:

  1. Stored in the foam tank (Stored Pressurized Unit)
  2. Held in an external cylinder (Non Pressurized Unit)

Foam Concentrate is available for the unit as per:

Premixed Solution

  1. Internal Foam Cartridge (with bursting disk)
  2. External Foam Cartridge (with an in-line mixer)

Discharge Nozzle

  1. Open type deluge (discharge is simultaneous through all package nozzles)
  2. Closed type wet (discharge takes place only from those activated. Solution available only for stored pressure units)

b) Gas Based units can be configured with the following operational methods:

  1. Pre-action using a pneumatic linear heat detection system
  2. Pre-action using an electrical linear heat detection system
  3. Wet type using closed head nozzles

Activation of the unit is via a propellant gas (nitrogen) which can be:

  1. Stored in the container (Stored Pressurized Unit)

Gas extinguishing medium available for the unit are:

  1. HFC 227 ea
  2. CF3I

Discharge Nozzle

  1. Closed type wet (discharge takes place only from those activated. Solution available only for stored pressure units)
