Fire Safety Search FIREX 2017 Review
The Fire Safety Search team attended the first day of FIREX 2017 at ExCeL London. On one of the hottest days of the year for the UK where temperatures outside were tipping over 30c we eagerly made our way through the concourse to the very welcoming air conditioned hall. It was great on first sight to see so many of our colleagues and associates starting to make their way around the 100+ exhibitor stands.
FIREX 2017 provided fire and security professionals access to the very latest technology from suppliers across the world, plus the cutting-edge solutions and essential knowledge needed to ensure life safety.
With all that has happened across the news in recent weeks, and in particular in the wake of the tragedy at Grenfell Tower, fire safety is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. It was great to see the exhibition supporting those who are victims of the disaster with collection buckets and the event organisers pledging to double whatever money is raised for the victims of the disaster. There was also a tribute wall for delegates to leave messages of condolence and support.
Here are just some of the highlights of our day
Following a one minutes silence to remember the victims of Grenfell, an emotional debate ensued with Dennis Davis of the Fire Sector Federation (FSF) emphasised the need for building regulations to be reassessed as part of the Grenfell Tower enquiry.
New Product Launches
There were lots of new innovations and technology advancements, and here are just a few of the new product launches we were able to learn more about on the day.
4Evac’s Compact 500
It was great to meet 4Evac’s Albert van der Hout to hear about the Compact 500.
The Compact 500 Networked VACIE solution is based on distributed boxed-amplifiers concept. This cutting-edge of digital audio-distribution technology, represents a variety of compact self-contained wall-mounted Control and Indicating Voice Alarm panels, creating a flexible and still simple to control distributed VACIE concept. The Compact 500 is a thoroughly ‘system-in-a–box’ concept which offers the simplicity of a stand-alone conventional voice evacuation system and the benefits of global Network topology.

FFE’s new Fireray beam detector range
Unveiled for the first time at the exhibition, two new beam detection solutions from the Fireray range; Fireray One and Fireray Hub.
Fiona Chan, Head of Marketing at FFE gave us an exciting overview of the products. The Fireray One is a standalone unit for simple applications such as warehouses. It can be installed by just one person and is a standalone product.
The Fireray Hub provides options of three types of beam detection (Reflective, end-to-end and Exd). The system can be tailored to unique applications and contains an event log.

PH – Svesis and their new Fighter XT
Meeting with Kostas Chatzimichalis, we had an interesting conversation about the changes the company has made with last year’s launch of a new brand from Paradox Hellas to PH-Svesis. Along with the company re-brand, a new product has been launched; Fighter XT. It is a unique conventional extinguishing system. Kostas told us “nothing compares to it, it has different combinations, you can create and design your own panel”. More information available at: www.phsvesis.com
