Electro-Pneumatic Deluge Valve VD/D/EP
The valve Mod. VD/D/EP is a deluge valve with electro-pneumatic actuation available in diameter sizes from 2” (DN 50) to 10” (DN 250).
The deluge valves Mod. VD/D/EP are used to control water or foam/water flow in water spray or foam fire protection systems monitored by electric fire detection system. The control trim is also provided with a connection for an optional pneumatic heat detection line, for the pneumatic activation of the deluge valve. When equipped with the relevant accessories (pressure switch, water motor alarm), they can provide actuation of fire alarms upon system operation.
In normal operating conditions the deluge valve electro-pneumatic VD/D/EP is held closed by the water pressure in the control chamber. In fire conditions water is released from the control chamber through the opening of the solenoid valve in the control trim, and the valve latches open under the effect of the water supply pressure. The valve can be manually open through the emergency manual release on the control trim. The trim is also provided with a connection for an optional remote emergency manual release line and another connection for an optional remote air control line.
The deluge valve electro-pneumatic is recommended for those applications where it is preferable to keep the solenoid valve dry, such as those with sea water or foam concentrate. The deluge valve electro-pneumatic Mod. VD/D/EP is available in vertical or horizontal configuration. It is designed for external resetting, without opening the valve. The cover plate allows in-line maintenance and field replace of the diaphragm to be performed.
The materials of construction make it suitable for being used with sea water or water foam solution within industrial harsh environments & offshore applications.
Principle of operation
In normal operating conditions (valve closed) the water is supplied to the priming chamber through the trim. The pressure of the water trapped in the priming chamber holds the diaphragm on the valve seat, keeping the valve closed.
The control trim comprises a water line held closed by the pneumatic actuator and the emergency manual release, and an air line held closed by the solenoid valve.
In fire conditions (valve open) the opening of the solenoid valve via remote signal allows the discharge of the air line and the subsequent opening of the pneumatic actuator, releasing the pressure from the control chamber. The water supply pressure in the inlet chamber forces the diaphragm off from seat, allowing water to flow into the system and the alarm devices.
Alternatively, the deluge valve can be opened locally through the emergency manual release on the water line.
A restriction orifice in the air line reduces the air inlet compared to the internal passage of the solenoid valve, allowing the opening of the pneumatic actuator. The manual reset prevents water from entering the control chamber, keeping the deluge valve in open position.
