Electric Double Chamber Deluge Valve VDD/D/E

The valve Mod. VDD/D/E is a double chamber deluge valve with electric actuation available in diameter sizes from 3” (DN 80) to 8” (DN 200). The two priming chambers, each one provided with its own diaphragm and control trim, provide fully redundancy improving the safety availability of the system. The fully redundant control trim is assembled on a panel or inside a closed cabinet, which can be connected to the relevant ports of the double chamber deluge valve through flexible or rigid tubing.

The deluge valves Mod. VDD/D/E are used to control water or foam/water flow in water spray or foam fire protection systems monitored by electric fire detection system. When equipped with the relevant accessories (pressure switch, water motor gong), they can provide actuation of fire alarms upon system operation.

In normal operating conditions the deluge valve electric VDD/D/E is held closed by the water pressure in the two control chambers. In fire conditions water is released from the control chambers through the opening of the two solenoid valves installed in the two control trims, and the valve latches open under the effect of the water supply pressure. The valve can be manually open through the emergency manual releases on the control trims. Each trim is also provided with a connection for an optional remote emergency manual release line.

The double chamber deluge valve electric Mod. VDD/D/E is available in vertical or horizontal configuration. It is designed for external resetting, without opening the valve. The cover plate allows in-line maintenance and field replace of the diaphragm to be performed. The maintenance activities can be performed alternatively on one of the two control chambers and relevant control trim, keeping the fire protection system in service through the other chamber and the other trim. The materials of construction make it suitable for being used with sea water or water foam solution within industrial harsh environments & offshore applications.

Principle of operation

In normal operating conditions (valve closed) the water is supplied to the priming chambers through the trims. The pressure of the water trapped in the priming chambers holds the diaphragms on the valve seats, keeping the valve closed.

Each trim is held closed by the solenoid valve and the emergency manual release.

In fire conditions (valve open) the opening of the two solenoid valves via remote signals releases the pressure from the two control chambers. The water supply pressure in the inlet chamber forces the diaphragms off from seat, allowing water to flow into the system and the alarm devices. Alternatively, the deluge valve can be opened locally through the emergency manual releases.

In each trim the manual reset prevents water from entering the control chamber, keeping the deluge valve in open position.

During maintenance (one chamber isolated) the two priming chambers can be alternatively isolated and inspected turning the in-built isolation valves, keeping the fire protection system in service through the other chamber.

The control trim of the chamber under maintenance can be isolated closing the hydraulic bridge, allowing the maintenance procedures to be performed keeping the fire protection system in service through the other chamber and the other trim.
