Foam Testing – Foam Evaluation, Burnback Fire Test, Large Scale Fire Test and Surface Tension Measurement Testing
Delta Fire Foam Testing are a leading Independent Foam Testing House and their Hi-Tech on-site, purpose built laboratories provide comprehensive testing on all types of foam concentrates and pre-mixes.
All Delta Fire Foam Testing is carried out in strict accordance with the UK Foam Defence Standards 42-21, 42-22 and 42-24 where appropriate. Other tests not carried out within these standards are performed in accordance with other internationally recognised specifications such as Mil-F 24385.
Good quality fire fighting foams generally have excellent storage properties with many manufacturers offering guarantees of up to 10 years on appropriately stored product. However foam concentrate can be compromised by a number of factors such as storage in extreme temperatures, contamination or dilution and for this reason BS5306, NFPA11 and UKOOA/HSE require that all fire fighting foam should be tested at least annually to determine changes in constitution, specification and characteristics.
The purpose of a produced foam test is to ascertain the performance capabilities of an individual foam system’s foam proportioning / induction equipment. Foam samples are commonly received from vessels and off-shore installations as well as industrial foam testing. On completion of the test the report will show the % induction measured using the sample provided by the customer.
For successful foam testing and certification it is essential that suitable foam samples are provided.
A Standard foam concentrate test consists of the following key elements:
• Appearance
• Specific Gravity
• PH
• Viscosity
• Surface Tension
• Freeze Point
• Expansion
• 25% Drainage
• Sediment
• Fire Extinguishing Properties
• Burn back Performance
