Automist Fire Suppression System Installed at Pioneering Apartment Hotel in Inverness
Plumis, which designs industry-leading intelligent fire suppression systems, has supported the delivery of a pioneering apartment hotel in Inverness – marking the first installation of its Automist system in Inverness.
Rosedene Highland House, a luxury apartment hotel located at the city’s Ness Islands and a local business success story, has been developed in a former maternity hospital and orphanage. Offering high-quality serviced apartments for the corporate and leisure markets, the project required a fire safety solution that would protect guests without compromising the character of the heritage building.
Automist is an intelligent water mist system that uses 90% less water than traditional sprinklers and is designed to be easy to retrofit with minimal disruption. Its low-profile nozzles and compact hardware made it an ideal choice for a high-spec refurbishment where preserving original features and finish was essential.
Because the apartment hotel model was new to the area, the development initially faced challenges securing building control approval. Automist played a central role in helping authorities understand how fire safety could be achieved without relying on more invasive or traditional systems.
Recommended by the project fire engineer Jim Mann, Automist was selected for its technical innovation, unobtrusive design and ease of retrofit.
The system was installed by Unite, a specialist fire protection contractor based in Perth. Following the successful delivery of the project, both Plumis and Unite expect increased interest in the region from developers and property managers exploring safer, smarter ways to protect buildings and people.
